OK Days..

Yes, OK days and nights. Sure embracing not have to adminster IV. The tower, on which the bag used to hang, makes a great clothes rack. We still go to City Of Hope for regular visits but we are just glad she is NOT in the hospital and home gaining strength. Please pray the Graft vs. Host disease will not return..we hope we are 'one and done' with this boogeyman. So, we press on..we give thanks for the somewhat level days. We are very aware that complications can arise at any moment. But we will not and cannot dwell on this..
Just seize the day...May you seize your day..

Ahhh....yes! Celebrate NO IV..

Tonight was NO IV night! We will take it! This one particular IV has been our friend for months...and tonight, Becky rolled the pole out of the way! She thrust her hands into the air and said.. "Yes! NO IV" and she did a little dance...We hope and pray this is the case for adinfinitum..or whatever that fancy word is...
But of course, she is still engulfed by her 30 or so pills daily!...
Abbey doing good in school...and has really coped well in this journey. BUT, as mentioned in early blogs, there were some extremely tough days during the first 6 weeks or so..hard to get through days..but since, Abbey has done remarkable..WE know our daily prayers were heard. Just holding hands and asking God to get us through the night, through the day, that is what we did..that is what He did.

Checkup...

Had a pretty good checkup a few days ago. Most 'chemistry'/labs good. A little low some areas..but white count, platelets, hemoglobin good. Had CT scan to see if the the lung 'spots' were decreasing or simply remaining a steady nuisance. These fungal spots are the reason we have been doing the nightly IV for months! Well, hallelujah! Praise! The 'spots' have decreased enough for our Doctor to say,,'just finish up the last few IV's (6)' and then auvoire! That's right goodbye to IV...thank you for doing what you did, no really, we thank you, but the show has been cancelled. We don't want to see you on another channel either..no reruns..just go retire..or of course, you wonderful med, you can go assist another wonderful person.
We are grateful for ALL we have ..we truly are. We know there are others who are experiencing a 'health poverty' that has altered their lives forever. May you find 'richness' in knowing others are praying for you. Richness abounds when you know there are angels guarding you..God's angels..

The week...

Had a pretty good week...her stomach a little queasy today, her 'giddy up' took a hit..but otherwise, Becky has had a steady last few days. Yes, still doing the nightly IV, still a rocket-science pharmacy of pills to navigate..The meds alone can put stress on the body, but we gotta have'em..that's that...They have a life sustaining job to do. We just pray her lab levels are good when we go to the hospital this week.

Thank you all for your prayers..It is hard to believe we will soon see the 'anniversary' of her hospital admittance and subsequent adult stem cell transplant..

Moving right along and a big step...

We had asked the Dr. about maybe, just maybe going away for a few days. Were we medically sound enough in any way to attempt this? Just something close, but enough to get us out the visual and mental 'routine' we have been envelope in. Wow, some 'routine' we have been in, no real travels for the past two years..Countless blood transfusions, a hospital stay totaling approx. 150 days, traveling to City Of Hope in Duarte, CA.. racking up more miles than the Space Shuttle..Ok, not so routine, how about a new word? 'Alter-tine'..A routine that is life altering. Ok, silly, but I'll go with it.
To the point. The Dr. said he thought it would OK for small getaway. We were concerned about hotels etc...But he still said OK. We first wanted to make sure Becky felt physically sufficient for travel after the heavy-duty IV she had on Friday..which, she did! We never know sometimes with these meds of complexity and potency. So, by gosh, by golly, the three of us packed up and went for a little two nighter in tourist town Solvang, CA... but we love it there. Still close enough to LA..if we have to make a sudden trip back for any medical attention, but far enough away from the 'bubble world' we have been experiencing. And Oh, how we enjoyed the change of scenery..I think that's what did it most of all. Just a different room other than the hospital Becky spent months in..and different from our home, which we love and are so appreciative of, but we just needed the 4 wall change. Becky did just fine. We did her 'normal' IV in the hotel room..She ate the tasty hotel breakfast food.. I pushed her around town in the wheelchair. This got a little tough at times..pushing her on some of those 'not ready for prime-wheelchair-time' streets and the small stores were navigationally challenged..But we managed, and let me tell ya, mentally is was as if we had all been in the best group therapy session possible. Just so positive for the mental aspect. You could see it in Becky's eyes..she had some 'pop' and a childlike exuberance was noticable. We will keep our travels local and close to sea level for now..We have to ask about altitude and it's effect on Becky's immune system, if we do any mountain treks. WE praise GOD for this life affirming milestone. It contributes to the road of normalcy. We still have a so-called continent to travel, but we will stay postive and prayerful and press on... In Becky's world, this small trip was as good as a week in New York..or a long-weekend getaway to Paris..well, you get the point...

Thank you all your love and support..We go back to the hospital in a few days..We just pray her levels are good. She has been showing some good strength...

Pickin' it up..

Boosted the immune system today with a potent elixir designed just to do this..tune up and elevate the immune system.
An IV that lasts about 4 hours...All went well. Becky sorta crashes during the IV time and I hang for a bit then tool about. And today was 'tool about on my birthday day'! That's right, spent the day going to the hospital and then doing a few things around the town. Becky and I sorta chuckled at this. No worries, all good. We knew this IV was necessary and would happen on my Bday. So be it, just thankful to celebrate another year.. the 'pahhty' this year was just a chill day at the hospital. Becky felt good afterward, had good energy. That, is indeed a welcomed gift!
